The state Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of a house fire that killed a Bar Harbor woman Wednesday afternoon.

Firefighters found Melissa Watership, 46, in the kitchen of her home at 9 Center St., said Steve McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

McCausland said Watership’s home is across the street from Mount Desert Island Hospital. She was taken to the hospital, where she died.

Watership lived with her husband, who was at work at the time of the fire.
