A Lewiston man who smuggled crack cocaine from Massachusetts to sell in Maine for years was sentenced on Thursday to serve nine years in federal prison.
Akylle Murchison, 24, was also sentenced by Judge George Singal in U.S. District Court in Portland to serve five years of supervised release after completion of his prison term.
Murchison made numerous trips from 2011 to 2014 between Maine and Massachusetts to smuggle crack cocaine. He used the money he made from selling it in the Lewiston area to buy more crack or powdered cocaine, according to a prosecution document filed with the court.
When police executed a search warrant at a residence in Lewiston on July 23, 2014, Murchison ran out the back door as police entered. Inside, police found a drug commonly called “bath salts” and more than $53,000 in drug money, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Murchison pleaded guilty last May 27 to charges of conspiracy to distribute cocaine and crack cocaine and possession with intent to distribute bath salts.
