Portland Press Herald sports writers Mark Emmert and Kevin Thomas earned national honors Wednesday in the 2015 Associated Press Sports Editors contest.

Emmert placed in the top 10 of the feature-writing category among papers sized 30,000 to 75,000 for the second consecutive year. Thomas placed in the top 10 in the columns category. Emmert and Thomas join three other Press Herald sports writers – Steve Craig, Glenn Jordan and Mike Lowe – who placed in the top 10 nationally in the 2015 APSE contest. In addition, the newspaper received national top-10 honors for its Sunday sports section for the fifth time in six years.
