SATURDAY

Stargazing, 6 to 9 p.m. in Jefferson

Join the Midcoast Conservancy and Central Maine Astronomical Society at Hidden Valley Nature Center and learn how to observe dark skies. Saturday will offer a waxing crescent moon, one of the best times to observe the moon’s craters. It also will offer a chance to observe earthshine, a Lunar phenomenon where sunlight is reflected off the Earth, gently illuminating the moon. There is a $5 suggested donation. Bring your own binoculars, a headlamp or flashlight, and plenty of warm clothes. After arriving at the main gate, walk a third of a mile to The Barn. If Saturday offers poor visibility, the event will be postponed to Sunday. For questions, call 389-5150.
