A Bridgton man underwent surgery Tuesday at a Lewiston hospital after being struck by a car on Main Street in Bridgton on Monday evening.

Bridgton Police Officer Josh Muise said 84-year-old James Knox was attempting to cross Main Street near its intersection with Depot Street around 6:30 p.m. when a 2004 Lexus sedan driven by 61-year-old Janna Levesque of Bartlett, New Hampshire, struck Knox.

Muise said that Knox was not in a crosswalk at the time. Knox was initially taken to Bridgton Hospital before he was taken by Lifeflight helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston where he underwent surgery for two broken legs.

Muise said Knox’s injuries are not considered to be life threatening. Muise said Knox and Levesque told him they did not see each other.
