Maine State Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying three people – two men and a woman – who broke into Flying Pond Variety store on Pond Road in Mount Vernon and stole liquor and cigarettes.

The break-in occurred about 10 p.m. Thursday and left at least one perpetrator bloodied.

By midmorning Thursday, the owners of the store had posted on Facebook photos of the glass the intruders smashed to get into the store.

Police said the trio drove off in a silver sedan that had damage to the headlight area on the passenger’s side.

Trooper Jesse Duda, who responded to the report of the burglary, said, the burglars got into the store by breaking the glass of the front door, likely with a hammer. “One of the intruders has numerous cuts to his left arm and back and has a tattoo on his forearm ‘1976,’ ” according to a news release from Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine State Police.

The thieves stole four bottles of liquor and about a dozen packs of cigarettes. The alcohol stolen was Pinnacle and Popov vodka, Captain Morgan rum and Moonshine.

Anyone with information about the three is asked to call state police in Augusta at 800-452-4664 or 624-7076.

The same store was burglarized by an Oakland man in February 2013. In that instance, Douglas William Hanson broke into the store and fled with the cash register drawer. He was later sentenced for that and other crimes to five years in jail, with all but nine months suspended and two years of probation.
