Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in a one-car crash that seriously injured an 18-year-old from Harrison on Sunday night.

Richard Strother was traveling south at high speed on Hebron Road in Paris when he lost control of his black 1996 BMW and crashed into a stand of trees, Paris Police Sergeant Hartley Mowatt said Monday. Strother was ejected from the car. It’s not clear whether he was wearing his seatbelt at the time.

Another motorist, whom Strothers passed at high speed on the road before he lost control, reported the wreck.

Strother was transported to Central Maine Medical Center in serious condition, Mowatt said.

The BMW was unrecognizable after the crash, and charges are pending, Mowatt said.
