Donnie Parker, 35, of Westbrook has always been a bit of a car enthusiast, which is likely one reason he thrives as a detailer at Sparkle Clean Car Wash in Scarborough.
He started on the car wash line and worked his way into the detail spot, which he has filled for 12 years.
In addition to working on cars, he details motorcycles and boats, and the jobs can take from anywhere from two to six hours.
What he likes the most about his job is pleasing customers.
“When you get a really dirty car and clean it, the people’s reaction, when they come to pick it up, makes it for me.”
Some of his favorite jobs have been high-end luxury cars such as a $250,000 Aston Martin and a $150,000 G55 Mercedes.
One big part of the business isn’t as much fun: detailing vehicles in which young children have left their mark.
“I don’t like doing minivans, but it is definitely job security,” he said.
