NEW HIRES

LeBlanc and Young added two new attorneys to its team.

Matie Little joined the firm as a partner, with a practice encompassing all areas of trusts and estates law. She was previously a partner in a Washington, D.C., law firm.

 

 

Eliza Nichols became an associate attorney with the firm last October and assists individuals and families with their estate planning needs, as well as trust and estate administrations. She previously practiced with a large law firm in Los Angeles.

 

 

Curtis Thaxter LLC has hired Rebecca Klotzle to join its litigation practice group.
Klotzle focuses her practice on civil and appellate litigation and advises clients in property disputes, intellectual property matters, zoning appeals, employment law and contract-related issues. Most recently, she was an associate attorney at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher and Flom in Boston.

 

Amy McNally joined the Biddeford law firm Woodman, Edmands, Danylik, Austin, Smith and Jacques as an associate.
McNally, of Arundel, focuses her practice on estate planning and administration, civil litigation and criminal defense. She previously worked at a law firm in York.

 

PROMOTIONS
Sara Moppin was recently elected as a shareholder and director of Perkins Thompson in Portland.
Moppin will continue to practice in the areas of business transactions, commercial lending and regulatory matters.

The attorneys of Skelton Taintor and Abbott named Benjamin Smith as a shareholder of the firm.
Smith, of Chelsea, is a litigator and possesses extensive experience in public utility law. He was previously a staff attorney for the Maine Public Utilities Commission.

 

AWARDS and RECOGNITIONS
Bernstein Shur recently announced 2015 pro bono and volunteer service results. Two attorneys were honored, along with the firm’s Sunshine Committee.
Talesha Saint-Marc, member of the firm’s labor and employment and litigation and dispute resolution practices groups, was recognized with the Sumner T. Bernstein Pro Bono Award. Saint-Marc provided legal services to victims of domestic violence, including a custody trial for a mother and son.
David Soley, member of the firm’s real estate and litigation and dispute resolution practice groups, was recognized for his continued service to the American Civil Liberties Union and Maine Homeless Legal Clinic.
The Sunshine Committee, a group of Bernstein Shur’s staff that raises funds, collects donated goods, and raises awareness for the needy in our community, was recognized with the Barnett I. Shur Civic Award. The committee members are: Janet Davis, chair; Jo Dyke, Ruth Earley, Mandy Furbush, Debra Humason-Fulgham, Robin Learned, Karla Quirk, Laura Rodrigues, Angela Stewart, Michelle Thomas and Angie White.

Skelton Taintor and Abbott shareholder Rebecca Webber was named president of the Central Maine Human Resources Association.
The president oversees the board of directors, presides at membership and board meetings and supervises the affairs and business of the organization.

 

Elizabeth High, a principal with LeBlanc & Young, was named the Portland Trusts and Estates Lawyer of the Year for 2016 by Best Lawyers.

GENERAL
Sarah Churchill, a civil and criminal litigator, became a partner with Matthew Nichols to establish the law firm Nichols & Churchill, P.A.
Churchill comes into partnership after three years as an associate at Nichols’ prior firm, Nichols and Webb, P.A.
Her focus is advocating for clients in workplace discrimination, sexual harassment and personal injury cases.
Nichols has been in private practice in Maine since 1988.
