Consumer programs set

The Scarborough Public Library has partnered with professionals in the financial and adult services fields to offer three consumer information programs specific to older adults and their families. All sessions will meet at 6:30 p.m. at 48 Gorham Road.

The first session, “Senior Financial Fraud,” will be held Thursday. Andrew Grover of Bangor Savings Bank will discuss strategies to safeguard personal and financial information.

The second session, set for May 11, is a program on Medicare fraud. The third session is on advanced healthcare planning.

All events are free and open to the public.

OLD ORCHARD BEACH

Annual cleanup Saturday

The annual Old Orchard Beach community cleanup day will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Memorial Park, the Atlantic Avenue basketball court and along all of Temple Avenue.

Participants are reminded to wear gloves and bring rakes. Collection bags will be distributed at all three locations. Rain date is May 14. For more details, call 937-5855.

Earth Day cleanups set

Two Earth Day cleanups are scheduled Saturday.

A beach cleanup will begin at 8 a.m. with participants meeting at the First Parish Church, 114 Main St., next to Kennebunk Free Library. For more details, call 216-3890

A river cleanup is scheduled for 9 a.m., with volunteers meeting at Rogers Pond. Participants will pick up trash in the Mousam River, by boat and along the banks on foot at various points along the river. Canoes are welcome. For more details, call Kevin Flynn at 985-7620.

Journalism scholarships

The Guy P. Gannett Journalism Scholarship Fund is accepting applications from Maine students.

The scholarship provides renewable support for students majoring in journalism or a field reasonably related, including print, broadcast, or electronic media. The fund helps pay tuition to attend an undergraduate, graduate, trade or technical school.

Applicants must be graduates of Maine high schools or have been homeschooled in Maine. In 2015, the average award size was $11,125.

Preble Street given $45,000

Patriot Subaru of Saco recently gave a donation of $45,000 to Preble Street, the Portland-based social services organization.

The money, earned from the Subaru “Share the Love” annual charitable benefit sponsored by Subaru of America, brought the car dealership’s two-year donation total to $87,000.

Preble Street said that this donation will provide about 609,000 pounds of food for about 130,000 meals.
