CHARLESTOWN, R.I. – A young harp seal who was found in Maine suffering from pneumonia and mild dehydration has been released back into the ocean by Mystic Aquarium.

The male harp seal, named Mica, was released Friday morning, Earth Day, at Blue Shutters Beach in Charlestown, Rhode Island.

The aquarium estimates Mica is 1 to 2 years old.

He weighed 53 pounds when he was rescued from Bristol, Maine, on Sept. 28, 2015, by the Marine Mammals of Maine.

He was then taken to Mystic Aquarium’s Animal Rescue Clinic in Connecticut and spent the last several months there.

By the time he was released on Friday, he had grown to 65 pounds.
