BINGHAMTON, N.Y. — Dominic Smith lined a single to left field to drive in Kyle Johnson in the bottom of the eighth for the winning run as the Binghamton Mets handed the Portland Sea Dogs their sixth straight loss, 3-2 Tuesday night.

The Mets (8-9) took an early lead, scoring an unearned run in the bottom of the third inning. L.J. Mazzilli walked and went to second on a wild pitch. He initially stayed at second when Xorge Carrillo grounded out to third, but headed to third and scored when first baseman Tim Roberson’s throw sailed over the head of third baseman Jordan Betts.

Portland (6-14) took the lead on a two-run double by Bryce Brentz in the sixth.

Maikis De La Cruz knocked in the tying run for Binghamton in the bottom of the inning with a soft roller up the first-base line as Johnson scored from third with the plate uncovered.

The Sea Dogs’ offensive woes continued as they were retired 1-2-3 in seven of the nine innings.

Akeel Morris picked up the win for the Mets, his first of the season, going 12/3 scoreless innings, striking out three batters,

Nik Turley suffered the loss in his first appearance for the Sea Dogs.
