Portland police say they are investigating multiple reports of gunshots being fired late Tuesday night in the vicinity of the Shaw’s supermarket at 1364 Congress St. – part of the Westgate Shopping Center.

Lt. Robert Doherty said police started receiving reports of people hearing gunshots around 9:20 p.m. Witnesses told police the gunshots seemed to have resulted from a confrontation between the occupants of two vehicles.

By the time police arrived, those vehicles, a gold-colored Honda Accord and a sport utility vehicle, had fled the scene.

Doherty said police were able to recover evidence, and there was no sign of anyone having been wounded.
