Portland police are asking for the public’s help in the investigation of a shooting Tuesday night outside the Shaw’s supermarket on Congress Street.

No one was hurt when a man carrying a firearm, brandished it and then fired at least one shot after getting into some type of altercation with another man in the parking lot, said Lt. James Sweatt.

Sweatt said police have no reason to believe the people involved represent any ongoing danger to the public, and asked that anyone with information about the alleged shooting come forward.

“It’s an isolated incident,” Sweatt said. “We encourage anybody who may have witnessed this to contact us.”

Police say the incident was reported at 9:22 p.m., but by the time officers could get to the scene the people involved had fled. Witnesses described the vehicles as a gold Honda Accord and a white GMC that may be an SUV.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Criminal Investigations Division at 873-8533 between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m., or call 874-8584 any time, or text “GOTCHA” plus the information to 274637.
