LEWISTON – Police in Maine are investigating multiple shots being fired as a party in Lewiston was breaking up early Saturday morning.

Authorities say bullets struck several cars but no one was injured during the 4 a.m. melee that jolted residents awake in the area of Lincoln and Oxford streets.

The Lewiston Sun Journal quoted one resident as saying she awoke to a rapid sequence of shots and heard a woman screaming.

Sgt. David Chick says the shots were fired as people were leaving a party at a house on Oxford Street. He says people scattered when police arrived.

Police say they expect to make arrests soon.
