Two Maine students, Paige Brown of Bangor High School and Matt Pisini of Greely High School, were named U.S. Presidential Scholars Wednesday, and will be honored in Washington, D.C., with 158 other high school seniors for their accomplishments in academics, the arts and career and technical education fields.

Brown recently won $150,000 and a first place Medal of Distinction for Global Good in the prestigious Intel Science Talent Search, a national competition. Pisini, who was starting quarterback for Greely before a season-ending knee injury early in the season, is considered one of the top quarterbacks in Class B South.

Students qualify to be considered a U.S. Presidential Scholar based on their SAT and ACT exams and nominations. The selection process is based on academic success, artistic excellence, essays, school evaluations and transcripts, as well as evidence of community service, leadership and demonstrated commitment to high ideals.

The 2016 ceremony will be held June 19th, when each honoree will receive a Presidential Scholar Medallion.
