Portland Press Herald Staff Writer Glenn Jordan won first place for explanatory writing in the Associated Press Sports Editors 2015 writing contest in the 30,000-75,000 circulation category.

Jordan got all six first-place votes for his story on how traditional charity events are losing participants to adventure races sponsored by for-profit organizations.

Four other Press Herald staff writers, Kevin Thomas, Steve Craig, Mike Lowe and Mark Emmert, also received top-10 recognition in other writing categories.
