In less than four weeks, voters will have the opportunity to vote in their party’s primary, on June 14, for House District 9 (Kennebunkport and parts of Kennebunk and Biddeford).

As we observed recently on Veto Day, our legislators must work around an obstructionist governor who vetoes sound, sensible legislation that would benefit Mainers in a multitude of ways. All too often, when Republicans vote to pass reasonable legislation, they flip their vote so as not to incur the governor’s wrath.

We need an “unflippable,” veto-proof Democratic majority in both the Senate and the House to take Maine in a positive direction. I’d like to become your Democratic representative in Augusta.

I was a businesswoman for 25 years, have been a special education teacher for the past 20 years, volunteered with homeless shelters, hospice and conservation, and organized drives to help homeless veterans and active military. I work well with a wide variety of individuals and count people of many political and religious beliefs among my closest friends.

You have the opportunity to select an experienced, sensible, forward-thinking, cooperative individual who can get the job done. Please come to the polls June 14 or contact your town clerk about obtaining an absentee ballot. The choice for a better Maine is in your hands.

Diane M. Denk

Democratic candidate, Maine House District 9

Kennebunk
