Beekeeping demonstration

Beekeepers Holly and David Edwards will give a presentation about beekeeping with an open-hive demonstration at noon Tuesday at Merryspring Nature Center at 30 Conway Road.

The pair will speak about how they captured a feral honey bee swarm and incorporated the bees into hives at Merryspring.

Guests are asked to wear light-colored clothing and sturdy shoes, and if they choose, bring a mosquito net. A limited amount of nets will be available for use. Insect repellent should not be worn during this program.

Mystery author at library

Author Charlene D’Avanzo will visit the Mystery Readers Roundtable at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Topsham Public Library, located at 25 Foreside Road.

D’Avanzo will read from her new book, “Cold Blood, Hot Sea: A Mara Tusconi Mystery” and will discuss mystery books and writing.

Ballpark benefit concert

A premiere Benefit at the Ballpark will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Ballpark at E. Emerson Cummings Boulevard.

The music lineup features The Adam-Ezra Group, Jessi McKinnon, White Stone, Treble G and “Jerry Plays,” re-creating songs from a legendary 1989 Ballpark concert.

Tickets are $10 in advance and available at Jimmy the Greek’s or $15 at the Ballpark the day of concert. Gates open at 10 a.m.

Proceeds will benefit the Restoring the Ballpark Fund, The Travis Mills Foundation, New England Parkinson’s Ride, Ever After Mustang Rescue and MAD-Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.

Club to sell plants and pies

The Seacoast Garden Club of the Kennebunks and Arundel will hold a Plant & Pie Sale beginning at 8:30 a.m. Saturday in front of Port Hardware, Route 35, Lower Village.

In case of rain, all activities will take place at the next-door Washington Hose Firehouse.

Hundreds of plants, donated by club members, will be offered at reasonable prices, including perennials, annuals, seedlings, vegetables, herbs, as well as homemade pies.

Manga event for teens

Teen Manga Book Club will meet from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday at the Kennebunk Free Library at 112 Main St.

Join the teen librarian to talk about your favorite manga series and everything manga in-between.

This free event will be held in Hank’s Room and is open to students and teens in grades 6 to 12. The library is wheelchair accessible.

House museum to open

The 1850 Taylor/Frey/Leavitt House Museum will be open to the public, free of charge, from 9 a.m. to noon each Saturday from May 28 through Sept. 24. The museum is at 6 Old Alfred Road at the intersection with Sokokis Trail.

The museum complex includes the period-furnished one-room 1817 Deering Schoolhouse. The barn and ell of the house contain antique cobbler, optician and barber shops.

Wednesday is the reservation deadline to attend York County Senior College’s annual membership meeting, set for June 1 at the Ramada Inn in Saco.

Reserve for DAR meeting

The reservation deadline is Saturday for those wishing to attend the Rebecca Emery Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution patriotic luncheon meeting on June 4, in honor of Flag Day, which falls on June 14.

The meeting will take place at 11:30 a.m. at the Oak Street Bistro, 3 Oak Street, Alfred.

A program about the U.S. flag will be presented, followed by writing notes to members of the military to show appreciation for their loyal service. There also will be an installation ceremony for the new chapter officers for 2016 to 2019.
