We would like to thank the men and women of the Portland Police Department for their tireless dedication to promoting the well-being of our community. Portland is a better place because of the way they operate as a team, year after year.

They represent the goodness of our neighborhood, providing us with hope, strength and security. Each of them plays a critical role: officers and detectives, dispatchers, administrators and support personnel staff, leadership and family members.

We ask so much of them and they deliver, without complaint, without question. We want them to be strong and gentle. We require them to be tough and caring. We expect them to be quick and thoughtful. We ask them to be diligent and judicious. We demand that they be both heroic and human.

They deliver it all, every day, with immense professionalism and dedication even when their shifts become longer and the things they see regularly threaten to darken their spirit.

We are profoundly grateful for their caring, compassionate and generous hearts. They are the lifeblood of our community and they make our corner of the world a brighter and more brilliant place.

They are valued, needed and appreciated.
