Showers in the forecast for Memorial Day have prompted the cancellation of the Biddeford-Saco Memorial Day Parade.

The parade has been replaced by a special indoor ceremony at 10 a.m. Monday at the J. Richard Martin Community Center, 189 Alfred St., in Biddeford.

Meteorologist Michael Ekster of the National Weather Service in Gray said showers should leave south and central Maine by late morning or early afternoon, when a mix of sun and clouds with a high temperature near 70 should move in.

“It should not be a complete washout,” Ekster said.

In Biddeford, the indoor ceremony will honor the military service and sacrifice of military personnel and their families, and those who died in service, officials said.

The speaker will be Michael Merrill of Volunteers of America. The Saco Jetts, Biddeford Middle School Band and Drum Cadence and Steppin’ Out Dance Center will perform.

Parking is available in area side streets and lots.

People are asked to enter the center through the Prospect Street back door.

The community is invited to a lunch, starting about noon, after the ceremony at the AMVETs Post #1, 147 Alfred St.
