The driver of a box truck was trapped for several hours after he crashed into a tree Tuesday evening on Route 9 in Wells.
WMTW-TV reported that the driver was conscious and alert while firefighters tried to extricate him from the wreckage. The Wells Fire Department told the Portland television station that the driver was taken by LifeFlight helicopter to Maine Medical Center in Portland.
His name and condition were not available late Tuesday. Fire crews were still at the accident scene late Tuesday trying to remove the wreckage.
The crash was reported around 6:45 p.m. The driver was removed from the wreckage about 9:45 p.m.
