A 73-year-old man from Gray was killed Tuesday evening when the 1994 Dodge Ram van he was driving on Route 4 in Turner crossed the centerline and struck a 2003 Chevrolet pickup truck that was traveling in the opposite direction.
The name of the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was not being released Tuesday night pending the notification of his family members.
Chief Deputy William Gagne of the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office said the Gray man and the pickup truck driver, 35-year-old Benjamin Ouellette of Greene, both had to be extricated from their vehicles.
Ouellette was taken by ambulance to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston with what Gagne described as “serious injuries.” A hospital spokeswoman said she did not have a condition on Ouellette because he was still being evaluated late Tuesday.
The crash happened around 6:30 p.m. on a section of Route 4 between Route 117 and Mancine Road. The road was shut down after the crash.
