NORWICH, Conn. — Justin Haley pitched six scoreless innings and Ryan Court drove in three runs to lift the Portland Sea Dogs to a 6-0 win in the first game of a Monday doubleheader against the Hartford Yard Goats.

Pat Valaika hit a walk-off home run with two outs in the seventh inning and Hartford won the second game, 1-0.

The split leaves Portland at 19-37. The Yard Dogs are 33-22.

Haley allowed two hits in the opener, walked one and struck out six. Chandler Shepherd pitched a perfect seventh inning. Hartford did not have a runner reach second base.

Nate Freiman opened the scoring for Portland, leading off the second inning with a solo home run down the leftfield line. Court widened the lead to 2-0 during the sixth inning, singling home Andrew Benintendi to extend his hitting streak to 10 games. Court added a two-run single as the Sea Dogs rallied for four more runs in the seventh. Wendall Rijo added an RBI base hit during the Portland seventh, and Benintendi a run-scoringground out.

Portland managed just two hits in the second game. Hartford’s Konner Wade pitched five perfect innings in his first start of the season. Reliever Johendi Jiminian allowed the Sea Dogs’ first baserunner of the game when Aneury Tavarez led off the sixth with a single. Tzu-Wei Lin added a one-out single in the seventh.

Austin Maddox pitched three innings and allowed one hit in his first start of the season for Portland. He struck out four. Williams Jerez pitched two perfect innings out of the bullpen before Jake Drehoff took the loss when Valaika turned on an inside pitch and lofted it over the left-center fence.
