FRYEBURG — Nicole Bennett allowed two hits Tuesday as sixth-seeded Fryeburg Academy defeated 11th-ranked Mountain Valley 5-0 in a Class B South softball prelim.

The Raiders (12-5) opened the scoring against the Falcons (9-8) with a four-run fourth inning. Bennett scored on a triple by Makayla Cooper, followed by three straight RBI singles

Tina LeBlanc drove in Cooper with a double in the fifth.

Fryeburg will play at third-seeded Greely (13-3) in the quarterfinals Thursday.

NOBLE 6, BONNY EAGLE 1: Shaughnessy Gower struck out seven and Tyler Chastney scored twice to lead the sixth-seeded Knights (11-6) over the 11th-ranked Scots (6-11) in a Class A South prelim at North Berwick.

Chastney scored in the first inning on an error and in the second on Kassidy Lessard’s sacrifice fly. Lessard added a double in the fifth to put runners on second and third, followed by a two-run single by Kendra Silvers.

Breanna Lifland of Bonny Eagle hit an RBI double in the sixth.

Noble will play at third-seeded Biddeford (12-4) in the quarterfinals Thursday.

SACOPEE VALLEY 8, DIRIGO 2: The eighth-seeded Hawks (8-9) scored eight runs in the first two innings and cruised past the ninth-ranked Cougars (7-10) in a Class C South prelim at South Hiram.

Sacopee scored five runs in the first, highlighted by Madison Day’s leadoff double that led to a two-run double by Isabelle Eldridge. Day also led off the second with a double before Jordan Miner knocked her in with a double.

Sacopee will play at top-ranked Madison (16-0) in the quarterfinals Thursday.

YARMOUTH 12, FRYEBURG ACADEMY 0: The sixth-seeded Clippers (11-5-1) scored seven runs in the first inning and shut out the 11th-ranked Raiders (4-13) in five innings in a Class B South prelim at Yarmouth.

Jack Snyder hit a two-run double and Charles Cawley added an RBI triple in the first for Yarmouth. Cawley also had a two-run homer in the second.

Conor O’Donnell finished with a pair of hits and Noah Pellerin had a triple for Yarmouth, which will be at third-seeded Greely (11-4-1) in the quarterfinals at 4 p.m. Thursday.

GORHAM 3, MASSABESIC 1: Cam Smith entered with the bases loaded and one out in the fifth inning, then struck out two batters to end the threat as the sixth-seeded Rams (11-6) beat the 11th-ranked Mustangs (6-11) in a Class A South prelim at Gorham.

Smith pitched the last 2 2/3 innings, allowing one hit, striking out four and walking one.

Gorham will play Thursday at third-seeded Scarborough (13-3).

BOYS’ LACROSSE

GORHAM 20, MASSABESIC 7: Alex York had seven goals and a pair of assists for the third-seeded Rams (11-2), who opened a 14-2 halftime lead and handled the sixth-seeded Mustangs (5-8) in a Class A South quarterfinal at Gorham.

Cam Wright added five goals and five assists, and Tristan Brunet had three goals and two assists for Gorham, which will play Biddeford or Westbrook in the semifinals Saturday. Biddeford and Westbrook will meet Wednesday.
