A 13-year-old girl reported missing Wednesday was found safe after she was dropped off at a local hospital by an unknown person, Ellsworth police said Thursday.

Khaitlynn Prosser was last seen on surveillance footage hitchhiking and getting into a dark-colored sedan police said was a Hyundai Sonata, a few minutes after she left the Ellsworth Public Library about 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Police Lt. Harold Page said Prosser was dropped off by a different car than the sedan that was seen picking her up, and police are still investigating the circumstances of how she got to the hospital. Police would not identify the hospital.

Officers are interested in speaking with the driver of the Sonata who they believe gave Prosser a ride.

Police believe she got into the car willingly before the vehicle turned toward Trenton on the Bayside Road.

“She has been located at an area hospital,” Page said. “All I can say is she is safe and the investigation is ongoing.”

Page declined to say if a crime was suspected, or whether Prosser had any injuries.

There was no description available of the car that dropped her off at the hospital, but it is not believed to be the same car that picked her up.

Anyone with information on the car should call Ellsworth police at 667-2168.
