Several fans had left, and who knows how many viewers already switched channels, but the Portland Sea Dogs showed some life at the end of Thursday night’s game at Hadlock Field.

After being down 9-1 after six innings, Portland put together some mini-rallies before falling 10-7 to the Bowie Baysox in a game televised by NESN.

Portland brought the tying run to the plate, but Ryan Court’s line drive went off the pitcher and was scooped by shortstop Adrian Marin, who touched second base and threw to first for a double play.

Bowie (26-34) completed a three-game sweep of Portland. It was the fourth straight loss for the Sea Dogs (19-40), who have the fourth-worst record in minor league baseball.

Court went 3 for 4 to raise his average to .327. Jake Romanski, Aneury Tavarez and Tzu-Wei Lin all had two hits each.

Portland starter Kevin McAvoy (3-2) made his second start since coming off the disabled list (arm tightness) and looked sharp for three innings.

After the first two batters reached (bunt single, throwing error), McAvoy didn’t allow a baserunner until the fourth.

But the fourth was a disaster. The first four reached (single, double, single, walk) and, McAvoy left with the bases loaded, two outs, and Bowie leading 4-0.

Jake Drehoff came in and gave up a three-run triple to Marin. That meant seven runs charged to McAvoy, whose ERA nearly doubled to 6.99.
