Michael Sylvester defeated Andrew Edwards in the Democratic primary race to represent Portland’s East End, downtown and islands in the House of Representatives.
Sylvester received 645 votes to Edwards’s 226 and will run for the House District 39 seat against Republican Peter Doyle in November.
