A 17-year-old Auburn girl, Lily M. Swearingen, was killed Tuesday when a car driven by another teenager hit a culvert on Eastern Avenue about 6:30 p.m., police said.
Darrien Allard, 19, of Sidney lost control of the 2008 Mazda MZ3 while driving east, veered off the road and hit the culvert, causing extensive damage, according to Augusta Police Deputy Chief Jared Mills.

Swearingen was killed and Allard and two other passengers were taken to MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta to be treated for their injuries.
On Wednesday afternoon, police said Swearingen’s family had been notified and that the investigation into the cause of the crash is continuing.
