A former Rumford motel was heavily damaged by fire early Wednesday morning.

The fire was in the former Madison Motel building on Route 2. Officials say the building is now used as a condo complex, according to WCSH.

Firefighters arrived on the scene of the River Valley Rents condominium complex around 4:30 a.m. Crews from eight departments helped contain the fire, which damaged or destroyed about a half-dozen condos, according to the Portland station. The fire was contained in about 90 minutes.

No one was injured.

The American Red Cross is assisting 15 residents who were displaced. The Red Cross Disaster Response Team will meet with each resident to make sure they have a safe place to stay, food and other essential items, according to the Red Cross.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
