A Maine state trooper suffered minor injuries Wednesday night when his cruiser was sideswiped by a passing car.
Cpl. Kyle Pelletier was assisting a construction crew that had closed the northbound passing lane on the Maine Turnpike in Gray when a car driven by a Norway woman drifted out of her lane and swiped the cruiser.
Pelletier was parked at the construction site with his emergency lights activated about 9 p.m. Wednesday when his cruiser was struck. He was treated for back injuries and released from Central Maine Medical Center.
The driver of the passing car, Deanna Marshall, 57, was not injured but was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland so her condition could be evaluated. Police suspect Marshall was under the influence, but she has not yet been charged, pending results of blood tests.
Marshall’s great-grandchild, who was under the age of 2 and seated in the back of the car, was not injured. Marshall’s car was severely damaged. The cruiser, a 2014 Ford Interceptor, sustained several thousand dollars in damage.
