A Florida man reported missing after failing to show up Sunday as scheduled at a family camp in Hartland was found safe Friday in Rhode Island, were he had returned after becoming disoriented while traveling in Maine, police said.
Somerset County Sheriff’s Deputy Toby Blodgett located Francis Phillips, 66, of Pensacola, Florida, with the assistance of Phillips’ credit card company, said James Ross, chief deputy at the sheriff’s office in a news release Friday afternoon.
“Mr. Phillips did make it to central Maine before he became disoriented,” Ross said in the release. “He was able to return to Rhode Island and is fine.”
Family members became concerned after Phillips reportedly rented a car on July 1 in Rhode Island and failed to show up Sunday in Hartland. Ross said Phillips possibly suffers from dementia.
Friends and family members had been trying to contact Phillips since Sunday.
Phillips reportedly flew on July 1 to T.F. Green Airport in Warwick, Rhode Island, where he rented a tan Ford Fusion with South Carolina plates. He fueled up his rental car on July 3 in Lexington, Massachusetts, Ross said.
