Reece Armitage hit an RBI double during a three-run first inning and Tommy Joyce added an RBI single in a three-run second as Andrews Post beat previously undefeated Yankee Ford 6-5 in the first game of an American Legion baseball doubleheader Saturday at Deering Oaks.

In Game 2, Yankee Ford (16-1) scored seven runs total in the fourth and fifth innings to pull away for a 9-3 victory.

Anthony Degifico and Aaron Radziucz each hit an RBI single during a four-run fourth inning, and Sam Troiano added a solo homer for Yankee Ford. He also homered in the opener.

All three runs for Andrews (8-9) in Game 2 came on a homer by Robby Armitage in the bottom of the sixth.

WELLS SWEEPS YORK: Liam Bell singled home the first run in Game 1 and scored the first run in Game 2 as Wells (15-3) completed its regular season with a 3-0 and 5-2 sweep of visiting York.

In the opener, Bell singled home Nick Cousins in the bottom of the fourth, and Ryan Coughlan and Cody Cousins scored on errors in the fifth.

Bell’s leadoff double in the second game ignited a five-run first inning.

Cousins lined a two-run double, Charlie Bell also doubled home a run, and Erik Aiken had a run-scoring single.

Shawn Ramsey singled home Shane MacNeil in the third inning for York, and Spencer Thorne singled home Christopher Neilsen in the seventh.

NECBL

UPPER VALLEY 8, SANFORD 4: Trent Leimkuehler’s sacrifice fly broke a 3-3 tie in the eighth inning, and the Upper Valley Nighthawks (11-19) added four runs in the ninth to pull away from the Mainers (17-14) in Sanford.

Leimkuehler also had an RBI single as the Nighthawks opened a 3-1 lead with runs in the first, second and fourth. Sanford tied the game in the bottom of the fourth when Jordan Powell doubled home Shaine Hughes and scored on Tristan Chari’s single.

Sanford’s first run came on Todd Czinege’s first-inning single that plated Johnny Slater.

Michael Landestoy scored on a groundout for Sanford in the bottom of the ninth.

EMPIRE LEAGUE

WATERTOWN 2, OLD ORCHARD BEACH 1: Ricky Perez scored the go-ahead run on an error by the center fielder after a single by Collis Hunt in the top of the ninth inning, lifting the Watertown Bucks (22-14) to a win over the Surge (22-17) at The Ballpark.

After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the second, the Surge answered with back-to-back doubles by Chris Allen and Luc Pomales in the bottom of the second.

Surge starter Richard Baerga gave up one run on five hits while striking out three and walking three over five innings. David Ernst and Eric Kline combined for three scoreless innings of relief.

BABE RUTH 13-15

SANFORD 5, TRI-COUNTY 2: Liam Nash singled home a run and scored twice while leading Sanford (1-1) past Tri-County (1-1) during pool play in Augusta.

Chase Kerrigan picked up the win, striking out three over six innings. Alex Schepis pitched the final inning.

Cam Slicer had three hits for Tri-County, and Ashton Kennison and Garrett Garbarini each added a pair of singles.

APPLE VALLEY 7, AUGUSTA 5: Brian Hewitt pitched all seven innings as Apple Valley (3-0) stayed undefeated in pool play with a win against Augusta (0-3).

Jared Beckwith, Avery Beckwith and Casey Dion led the Apple Valley offense with two hits each. Austin Stebbins and Chandler Moore were repeat hitters for Augusta.

TRI-COUNTY 7, APPLE VALLEY 1: Ashton Kennison powered Tri-County (2-1), plating three runs with two singles and a home run against Apple Valley (3-1).

Cam Slicer added a single and a sacrifice fly for Tri-County. Colton Carson struck out nine during a complete-game victory.

Cody Duguay had two hits for Apple Valley.

BABE RUTH 14

CENTRAL MAINE 10, WINDHAM 4: Carter Hunt had three hits to lead Central Maine (1-1) to a win over Windham (1-1) in pool play in Harrison.

Dylan Cunningham and Zeb Tibbetts contributed two hits apiece. David Barre threw six scoreless innings of relief to earn the win.

The lone repeat hitter for Windham was Caleb McCartney.

TRI-COUNTY 10, APPLE VALLEY 3: Johnny Pruett laced two singles and a double and drove in two runs as Tri-County (3-0) pulled away from Apple Valley (0-3).

Tri-County opened the scoring in the first inning before adding four in the second for a 5-0 lead.

Janek Luksza added a single and a double for Tri-County, and Cam Gadbois struck out six in seven innings.

CENTRAL MAINE 6, APPLE VALLEY 4: Ben Hellen doubled in the top of the eighth and scored the go-ahead run as Central Maine (2-1) beat Apple Valley (0-4).

Apple Valley, which left the bases loaded after tying the game in the seventh, was retired in order by Carter Hunter in the eighth.

Hellen and Braden McCarthy each had two hits for Central Maine.

Apple Valley’s Allen Peabody struck out seven while pitching the first seven innings.

JUNIOR LEGION

CUMBERLAND 3, ARARAT 0: Sam Cloutier won a pitchers’ duel in Topsham, striking out eight while throwing a three-hit shutout.

Cam Grant of Ararat also gave up only three hits and struck out eight.

Nathan Cyr led the Cumberland offense with two RBI.

MORRILL POST 11, WESTBROOK 0: Zach Johnson had three hits and drove in four runs to lead Morrill Post (12-3) to a win at Westbrook.

Hunter Owen gave up one hit – a fifth-inning single by Kyle Hebert – over six shutout innings to earn the win.
