AUGUSTA — Cam Slicer and Garrett Garbarini each had three hits as Tri-County beat Portland 17-7 in an elimination game Sunday to earn a spot in the state final of the Babe Ruth Baseball 13-15-year-old state tournament.

Tri-County, which finished pool play 3-1, faces Apple Valley (3-1) in the championship game at 5 p.m. Monday.

Jacob Bland and Ethan Laubauskas each had two singles for Tri-County.

Justin Ray and Tim Smith each hit a pair of singles for Portland.

PORTLAND 15, SANFORD 4: Garrett Tracy held Sanford (1-2) to four runs as Portland (2-1) invoked the mercy rule after five innings in Augusta.

Justin Ray had three singles for Portland and Tim Smith had two. Owen Roberts had a pair of hits for Sanford.

BABE RUTH 13

SCARBOROUGH/SOUTH PORTLAND 4, TRI-COUNTY 2: Scarborough/South Portland (3-0) eliminated Tri-County (2-2) from the state tournament with a victory in Falmouth.

Scarborough/South Portland meets Augusta (3-1) at 5 p.m. Monday for the state championship.

The tournament’s other two pool games scheduled for Sunday were canceled.

EMPIRE LEAGUE

WATERTOWN 7, OLD ORCHARD BEACH 4: Collis Hunt doubled home three runs and scored on Javier Marticorena’s two-run single as the Watertown Bucks (23-14) broke a 2-2 tie with five runs in the seventh inning and beat the Surge (22-18) in Old Orchard Beach.

Marticorena had four RBI and Hunt added three.

Shaun Cooper had two hits and two RBI for the Surge, and Jordyn Atta had two hits and an RBI. Brandon Cooksey also had two hits for Old Orchard and scored twice.
