A section of Broadway in South Portland reopened Monday afternoon, several hours after a water main break forced police to close the heavily traveled roadway.

Michelle Clements, a spokeswoman for the Portland Water District, said the break was repaired and water service restored by 11 a.m. The break was reported around 4 a.m.

Clements said the break affected the section of Broadway from Mussey Street to Sawyer Street. The road reopened and traffic was restored to normal by 2 p.m.
