Westbrook police officers used Narcan to save the lives of two people who suffered opioid overdoses on Sunday and Monday.
Capt. Steve Goldberg of the Westbrook police said in a statement posted on the department’s Facebook page that the first victim, a 27-year-old Portland man, suffered an overdose Sunday evening on Cottage Place in Westbrook.
The second overdose incident, involving a 26-year-old Scarborough man, took place Monday night on Prospect Street.
In both cases, each victim’s companion tried unsuccessfully to revive the person and did not take the time to call 911, although others did, police said.
Goldberg urged members of the public to contact 911 if they suspect a person has suffered a drug overdose.
“Our police officers and fire/rescue personnel are equipped with Narcan and are trained to use it,” Goldberg wrote. “A victim’s survivability depends on a rapid EMS response and seconds count.”
