I was so pleased to see Greg Kesich’s column (Portland police chief sets the right tone; now lets back him up) on July 20. Not only is it a very warm endorsement of Mike Sauschuck, it is very much a voice in the wilderness. In our frightened, polarized society we blame each other and ignore our individual responsibility.

The importance of unconscious bias is frequently underestimated. We cannot hope to achieve justice for all until we are willing to acknowledge the problems stemming from ignorance and cultural differences.

All of us are guilty of hidden bias and it will take us all working together to improve.
