SEATTLE — The Seattle Mariners bolstered their bullpen by acquiring right-hander Arquimedes Caminero from Pittsburgh and switch-pitcher Pat Venditte from Toronto in a pair of trades Saturday.

Both deals Seattle made were for players to be named later. Seattle will send two players to Pittsburgh for Caminero and one to Toronto for Venditte. Venditte would report to Triple-A Tacoma while Caminero will report to Seattle.

Caminero is 1-2 with a 3.51 ERA in 39 appearances for the Pirates. He’s struggled with control, walking 22 batters in 41 innings pitched, but throws in the upper 90s. Caminero appeared in 73 games last season for Pittsburgh and also pitched parts of two seasons with Miami.

Caminero pitched against Seattle recently, giving up two hits and striking out one in one inning on July 26.

“Actually had pretty good success. He got off to a rough start, April and May were bad this year,” Seattle Manager Scott Servais said. “He’s been around a little bit, he’s got a couple of years in the league and he should be able to help us out.”

Venditte rose to prominence last season with Oakland because of his ability to pitch with both arms. He appeared in eight games this year with Toronto and had a 5.19 ERA.

MARLINS-BRAVES TRADE: The Miami Marlins acquired rookie left-handed reliever Hunter Cervenka from the Atlanta Braves for minor league players Anfernee Seymour and Michael Mader.

Cervenka is expected to join the Marlins in Denver on Sunday. He was 1-0 with a 3.18 ERA in 50 appearances for Atlanta.

NATIONALS: First baseman Ryan Zimmerman was placed on the 15-day disabled list because of a bruised left wrist.

The NL East leaders recalled outfielder Brian Goodwin from Triple-A Syracuse.

The move with Zimmerman was retroactive to Aug. 1, a day after he was hit on the wrist by Giants closer Santiago Casilla in a game in San Francisco.

DODGERS: Right-hander Bud Norris was placed on the 15-day DL because of a strained back muscle.

PADRES: Lefty Clayton Richard rejoined the team, and another lefty, Matt Thornton, was designated for assignment.

Richard was 0-1 with a 6.43 ERA in 25 games for the Cubs this year before his Wednesday release. He pitched for the Padres from 2009-13, going 40-39.

ANGELS: Tim Lincecum was designated for assignment a day after the two-time Cy Young Award winner allowed six runs in the first inning.

Lincecum was 2-6 with a 9.16 ERA in nine starts with Los Angeles in his return from left hip surgery last September.

YANKEES: The team will hold a news conference with Alex Rodriguez before Sunday’s game against Cleveland.

The Yankees said General Manager Brian Cashman and Manager Joe Girardi will be made available following Rodriguez’s news conference.
