A dangerous situation ended peacefully Saturday afternoon when a man who threatened to shoot himself at a home in Saco where a young child was present surrendered after speaking with dispatchers, according to police.
Deputy Police Chief Corey Huntress said the man made an emergency call to police from a home on Spring Street at 1:05 p.m.
Police from Saco, Biddeford and Old Orchard Beach responded.
Streets in the area were blocked off by police and several residents from nearby homes were evacuated while police negotiated with the man.
Dispatchers were able to talk him into coming outside unarmed at 2:26 p.m. Huntress declined to say whether a gun was recovered from the house, saying the investigation into the incident is continuing.
The man was taken to an area hospital, Huntress said. The young child was found unharmed and turned over to family members.
