Mike Redding, who has been news director at TV stations WLBZ in Bangor and WCSH in Portland for more than three years, is leaving for a similar job in Austin, Texas.

Redding will become news director at KVUE, an ABC-affiliate in Austin, he said. The Maine stations are NBC affiliates. All three stations are owned by TEGNA Media. Before coming to Maine, Redding had been executive producer of news at a TEGNA station in Greensboro, North Carolina. Redding is a native of Youngstown, Ohio.

At WCSH and WLBZ, Redding oversaw about 35 hours of TV news programming a week, plus the stations’ online news. He said leaving Maine will be hard, but the new job “presents a great opportunity for me and my family.”

Redding’s last day at the Maine stations will be Aug. 15 and his first day at his new job will be Aug. 16.

Brian Cliffe, president and general manager of WCSH and WLBZ, was traveling and could not be reached Monday to comment on who might replace Redding or when.
