Sanford police are asking the public to help identify potential witnesses to a fire Sunday at the Family Dollar on Main Street.

Clerks in the store reported seeing heavy smoke from the rear of the business about 5:42 p.m. Sunday. The store is located within the Mid-Town Mall.

No one was injured and the store was quickly evacuated. Firefighters determined that the blaze began when a small bundle of napkins was set on fire.

There were several people in and around the store at the time of the fire. Police are requesting help in locating anyone who may have witnessed how the fire began.

The fire is being investigated by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
