I was privileged to be part of the enthusiastic, sellout audience for the performance of “Carmen” at Merrill Auditorium on July 29. It was an excellent production of this popular opera, presented by PORTopera.
The leads, played by Maya Lahyani and Adam Diegel, were outstanding, both musically and dramatically. The supporting cast was also very strong, including some in the chorus who are local musicians.
PORTopera has delighted us for 21 years with a high-quality production each summer, drawing top performers to the Portland stage. We are very fortunate to have this opportunity, and I look forward to 2017, when they will present “La Traviata.”
