BARRINGTON, N.H. – Police say a man who had a gun near a popular fishing pond was found dead in the nearby woods.

The Portsmouth Herald reports that police had evacuated the public from an area near Stonehouse Pond on Saturday morning. They were responding to a 911 call of a man who had a gun in the wooded area by the pond.

The state-owned pond is a popular fishing and swimming spot off Route 202 southwest of Rochester, about 15 miles from the Maine border.
