A Gardiner man is being sought by Maine State Police after he ran away from a traffic stop, leaving his phone behind.

State police said they are looking for Jason Maxim, 37. Maxim has been charged with theft for allegedly not returning a car after a test drive from a Farmingdale car dealership.

Police said they are also seeking Maxim for running away from a traffic stop in Gardiner on Saturday after providing a false name and date of birth to state troopers.

Maxim dropped his cellphone while running away, police said.

“If Maxim is reading this and would like his phone returned Troopers would gladly coordinate a meeting to arrange such a transaction,” police said on their Facebook page.

Police say Maxim may be staying in the Greater Gardiner area. He is 5-foot-10 and 155 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes.

Anyone with information about Maxim’s whereabouts is asked to call state police in Augusta at 624-7076. Callers may remain anonymous.
