A Hampden man was charged with trafficking heroin after drug agents seized more than a thousand bags of the drug Wednesday in Holden, according to a release from the Holden police and Maine Drug Enforcement Agency.
Peter James “PJ” Tardiff, 30, was in possession of the heroin, which was intended for resale in Penobscot County.
Tardiff also was wanted on an outstanding traffic-related arrest warrant in York County.
Holden police Sgt. Eduardo Benjamin located Tardiff in Holden and took him into custody on the prior arrest warrant. In a search, Benjamin found the heroin, with an estimated street value of over $15,000, and prescription medication in Tardiff’s possession.
Tardiff was charged with Class A Aggravated Trafficking in Schedule W Drugs (Heroin). The charge was aggravated because Tardiff was staying at a location within 1,000 feet of a school.
Tardiff was taken to the Penobscot County Jail and bail was set at $15,000.
Maine State Police assisted in the investigation. More arrests are likely.
