FOOTBALL: Baylor sophomore receiver Ishmael Zamora was suspended for the first three games of the season after a video surfaced of him beating his dog this summer.

WOMEN’S SOCCER: Madelyn Wade scored five goals and also had one assist to lead Southern Maine Community College (1-0) to a 13-0 victory over the College of St. Joseph (Vt.) (0-2) in South Portland.

Hannah Fields added three goals and Emily Harris scored twice for the Seawolves, who scored four times in the first eight minutes of the game.

ENGLAND: England captain Wayne Rooney says he will retire from international football after the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

NWSL: Goalkeeper Hope Solo has decided to end her season with the Seattle Reign.

Solo, who was handed a six-month suspension and saw her contract with U.S. Soccer terminated last week, announced her departure from her professional club team in a statement.

NBA: The Denver Nuggets traded forward Joffrey Lauvergne to the Oklahoma City Thunder for two second-round draft picks in 2017.

WNBA: Brittney Griner had 20 points and four blocks as the visiting Phoenix Mercury beat the Indiana Fever 79-65.

 Alex Bentley scored 21 points, Jasmine Thomas had 14 points, six rebounds, six assists and four steals, and the Connecticut Sun beat the San Antonio Stars 89-62.

OLYMPICS

SWIMMING: Ryan Lochte isn’t saying whether he’ll return to Brazil to face a charge of filing a false police report over a gas station encounter during the Olympics.

Lochte told ABC’s “Good Morning America” his legal team is dealing with the situation, adding “we’re just trying to get this over with.”
