Police say a Bath man accused of attacking another man with a hammer has been arrested.

Jason Mackenzie, 38, was being sought on a charge of aggravated assault after police responded to 98 Union St. in Bath at 1:20 a.m. Wednesday for a report of a man who had been assaulted with a hammer. Mackenzie was arrested Wednesday night by the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office, according to police.

Police had asked the public for help in locating Mackenzie.

The victim, a 37-year-old man from Bowdoin, suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries to his face. Upon interviewing the victim and other witnesses, they were told Mackenzie and the victim had been arguing inside the building. The two men then went outside and Mackenzie picked up a hammer and hit the victim several times in the facial area, police said.

A hammer was located by investigators outside the address where the assault took place.

Police issued an arrest warrant for Mackenzie charging him with aggravated assault, a Class B crime.
