WATERVILLE — Hailey Lovely scored her second goal of the game with three minutes, 49 seconds reamaining in overtime, lifting the Gardiner field hockey team to a 2-1 over Nokomis in the season opener for both teams.

The teams played through a scoreless first half in the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B matchup before Allysah Green opened the scoring for Nokomis (0-1), but Lovely answered midway through the second half to knot the score.

Avery Backus made eight saves to earn the win for Gardiner (1-0).

ERSKINE 3, OCEANSIDE 2: Audrey Jones scored with 3:15 remaining, snapping a tie and lifting the Eagles to the KVAC B win in South China.

Keeley Gomes and Chantelle Roddy also scored for Erskine (1-1).

Erin Dugan scored both goals for Oceanside (0-2).

MCI 5, WINSLOW 0: Addi Williams and Madisyn Hartley each scored twice as the Huskies won in Winslow to remain unbeaten in KVAC B.

Sarah Welch also scored for MCI (2-0), and Elspeth Taylor made four saves in the win.

Hope Winkin made 32 saves for Winslow (0-2).

LAWRENCE 3, MOUNT VIEW 0: Lexi Laverdiere scored one goal and assisted on the other two as the Bulldogs picked up their first KVAC B win in Fairfield.

Norah Buck and Kately Giroux also scored for Lawrence (1-1). Mount View dropped to 0-2.

RICHMOND 12, RANGELEY 0: Meranda Martin scored five goals and Caitlin Kendrick had two goals and two assists at the Bobcats opened defense of their Class D state title with the big win in Rangeley.

Freshman Abby Johnson also scored twice for Richmond (1-0), while Destiny Anair assisted on three goals.

MESSALONSKEE 3, HAMPDEN 1: McKenna Brodeur scored two goals and assisted on the other to propel the Eagles to a KVAC A win in Hampden.

Brianne Benecky scored the other goal for Messalonskee (1-0). Ashley Mahoney had the lone goal for the Broncos (0-1). Hannah Delgiudice made 10 saves for the Eagles while Emily Dysart shot 16 shots for Hampden.

LAWRENCE 2, CONY 1: Hannah Walsh and Ashley Rhodes managed to solve the riddle of Cony goalkeeper Gabby Low, and the Bulldogs took the season-opening win in Fairfield.

Low made 23 saves for the Rams (0-1), who got a goal from Maggie Vigue.

Hayley Reynolds made one save to earn the win for Lawrence (1-0).

WATERVILLE 5, NOKOMIS 1: Anika Elias scored three goals to lead the Purple Panthers to the KVAC B win in Newport on Friday.

Makenzie St. Pierre and Sophie Webb added goals for Waterville (1-0), while Alyssa Ellis scored for the Warriors. TT Brandon had six saves for Waterville. Aren Kemck made 19 stops for Nokomis (0-1).

BOYS SOCCER

MESSALONSKEE 4, HAMPDEN 2: James Kouletsis scored a pair of goals and assisted on another as the Eagles held on for the season-opening win in Oakland.

Messalonskee (1-0) led 3-0 at the half. Ryan McCarthy and Dylan Labun also scored for the Eagles, while Chase Warren made five saves in goal.

Hampden dropped to 0-1 in the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class A division.
