KEENE, N.H. — Four players scored one goal Saturday as the University of New England earned a 4-2 victory against Keene State in a nonconference field hockey game at the Owl Athletic Complex.

Marge Gardiner and Kersey Boulay had UNE (2-0) a 2-0 lead at halftime.

Nicole Matarozzo made it 3-0 with an unassisted goal less than two minutes into the second half. Hannah Buckley then converted a pass from Matarozzo to make it 4-0 against the Owls (1-1).

SPRINGFIELD 2, SOUTHERN MAINE 0: Maggie Kennedy and Taylor Conley scored, and the Pride (2-0) held off the Huskies (0-3) at Springfield, Massachusetts.

Amanda Kasbohm stopped eight shots for the Huskies, who had four shots on goal.

WELLESLEY 4, ST. JOSEPH’S 0: Courtney Peterson scored two goals to lead ninth-ranked Wellesley in an opener at Portland.

The Monks played to a 0-0 tie at halftime, but Wellesley then broke the game open after scoring its first goal in the 42nd minute.

Megan Baker stopped three shots and Kara Kelly had two shots on goal for St. Joseph’s.

FOOTBALL

ALFRED 35, HUSSON 28: John Smith rushed for 153 yards for Husson, but Alfred scored two consecutive touchdowns early in the fourth quarter and won at Alfred, New York.

Husson trailed 21-14 at halftime, but a 61-yard run by Smith set up a 2-yard touchdown run for Obie Christmas to make it 21-21.

Alfred extended its lead to 35-21 on consecutive scoring possesions before Husson got within a score on a 15-yard touchdown pass from Cory Brandon to Deon Wiggins. Brandon threw for 181 yards.

MARITIME (N.Y.) 35, MAINE MARITIME ACADEMY 28: Corey Creeger rushed for three touchdowns and threw for 123 yards for Maine Maritime, but Severino Torelli scored on a 2-yard rush in overtime for the Privateers in an opener at Castine.

The Mariners took a 21-14 lead in the third quarter on a four-play, 22-yard scoring drive on a 2-yard run by James Ferrar.

Maine Maritime stopped the Privateers on the next posession, sparking a 10-play, 64-yard scoring drive resulting in a 2-yard run from Creeger. The Privateers responded with scoring drives on their next two possessions to make it 28-28 with 38 seconds left in regulation.

MEN’S SOCCER

COAST GUARD 5, SOUTHERN MAINE 0: Five players scored as the Bears (2-0) cruised past the Huskies (0-2) at in Gorham.

Coast Guard had 27 shots with 15 on goal. The Huskies took four shots with none on goal.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

MASSACHUSETTS 1, MAINE 0: Gabriela Kenyon scored after 22 minutes to lead UMass (2-2) over the Black Bears (3-2) at Amherst, Massachusetts.

Kenyon’s goal came from Salma Anastasion. The Black Bears had eight shots on goal, seven in the second half. Annelena Kriebisch had three saves for Maine.

ELMS 2, SOUTHERN MAINE 0: Kathleen Tuechler and Brie Voight scored a goal to lead the Blazers (3-0) over the Huskies (1-2) at Chicopee, Massachusetts.

Tuechler gave Elms a 1-0 lead after 10 minutes from Jackie Soucia. Voight made it 2-0 with an unassisted goal late in the first half. Taylor Canastra made five saves and Analies Ross-Dyjak had two shots on goal for USM.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

SOUTHERN MAINE SPLITS: In its first match at the Brandeis Invitational in Waltham, Massachusetts, USM fell 3-1 to Endicott (23-25, 25-17, 25-14, 27-25). In the second match, the Huskies defeated Smith 3-1, (26-24, 25-21, 20-25, 25-21).

Megan Nilson led the Huskies with 26 assists.
