A 16-year-old girl was seriously injured in New Canada on Saturday in a crash caused by speeding and texting, Maine State Police reported.

The teen was driving on New Canada Road at 3:21 p.m. when she lost control, went off the road and crashed into some trees. The girl had to be cut from the car by the Fort Kent Fire Department and other emergency workers. She is being treated for a broken neck and two broken orbital bones at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, police said.

Police said the crash is still under investigation, but they suspect the driver was speeding and texting.
